The Delicious, Delicious Sandwich

Oh yes, that’s right. I made a delicious sandwich today while I was pottering around the house trying to think of what to do (which actually made me more hungry). So I thought, “well I might as well take pictures of this and post it to my blog so that I can legitimately say that I have documented the making of my delicious sandwich” – Travers [2015].

So here we go! Strap yourselves in! This story is full of fiber, amoung other things.

Starting with almost all of the ingredients:

– Two kinds of bread (I had sesame seeded white bread and whole grain bread)

– Slices of cheese

– Shaved ham (or you can just cut it from the leg of ham, whatever tickles your fancy)

– Butter

– Betroot Relish (actual betroot is WAAYYYYY better, but this is good too)

– Chilli jam (don’t remember where I got his, but it’s delectable)

– Lettuce (don’t ask me what kind, iceberg, baby whatchamacallit, I have no idea. The green stuff)

– Tomato (not pictured, but I remembered it half way through)

– Salt & Pepper (not necessary, but it brings out some of the flavours)

If you look closely, it still looks like bread
And so, with his dying breath, the baker from Abbott said “We should go international”, and the bread industry has never been the same

… and here’s that missing tomato.

I can't stand tomato by itself, hence the sandwich
Yes, that is a ceramic knife, and no, I haven’t cut myself… yet

Say goodbye tomato, you’ll be parting soon.

Whabam! There's another one. So sharp.
Oh man I put so many puns in my posts… Time to cut my losses?

Now for the condiments, I put butter on all pieces, then Chilli jam on one side, and Betroot relish on the other bit.

Nono, no knife jokes here.
This stuff… is actually quite mild, however it is quite nice.
It's looking better now, got some colour.
Omnomnomawhat? Love this stuff, but betroots themselves are better.

Put on the tomato (cut two slices in half for better fit).

Tomato tomato... huh... guess that works better verbally.
Time to put on the tomato… that red round stuff.

Put on the salt and pepper now, so that the little salt crystals can dissolve into the bowels of the tomato (well, now that the liquids have slightly slipped out of the massacred tomato). This lets the tomato actually have some taste, and I find it quite nice mixed with the other ingredients.

Geddit? GEDDIT?? I don't.
These grinders really crack things off

Now for the ham, that lovely, pink, and in this case, quite large round shavings.

Is Don. Is Good.
Bread for scale

It was at this point that somebody else wanted in on the sandwich making fiesta.

Bilby
The answer is yes. He does do this a lot, and yes, he does always get a small tip bit.

Time for cheese! That lactose stuff that comes from fermenting old milk and other things that you really don’t wanna know about just before you consume it.

CheeseCheeseCheese
I could make a cheese joke here but… It’s too corny.

The that green lettuce stuff that grown in the ground.

Not even sorry
STOP! … Lettuce time.

Then we put the lids on and cut it into triangles.

What's that, you like rectangles better? Well then, triangles it is.
Yup. Triangles. Cause triangles are love, triangles are life.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand that’s it!

Well I mean, that’s not it, you don’t just make a sandwich and take pictures of it.

You make a (delicious) sandwich, cut it into triangles, take pictures, and then you pick up that badboy with both hands, like a man, and take a bite with a satisfied slight slow nod and small smirk on your face. Acompanied by a drawn out “Mmmm”, if that doesn’t happen, it’s all for nothing, man.

That part you don’t have to photograph, cause nobody wants to see that, and you gotta keep some things only in memories, it’s better that way. However, if you can photograph the taste? Pfffcht, wow man, lemme see! er… taste?

ANYWAY

Back to the task at hand.

… Actually that’s pretty much it, I’ve shown you how to make a rather tasty sandwich (by my standards), now go forth, minions, indulge!

I’ll post again soon with another slicing adventure, that’s hopefully not too cheesy.

You thought wrong. Those puns are still going!

Post again soon.

The Arduino

Hello again!

So I’ve made a new page for future posts about Arduino projects. At the moment I’m working on a small customised Arduino (ATMEGA328P-PU) that will at the moment live on a breadboard.

I plan to integrate an RS-485 standard onto it, and create quite a few more so that I can have a small network of Arduinos around the house. I plan to use these for temperature measurement, and relay control/feedback. I’ll also be able to do a whole lot of other things on these boards like PWM LED control and a few other exciting things!

If you’ve worked with Arduino before, let me know in a short response to this post. I’m just starting to play with Arduino, so let me know anything you wished you knew when you started playing around with this wondrous little chip!

Post again soon!

The dog

So, a bit more about what my life entails, here we go.

I’m a dog person, love dogs, almost all shapes and sizes. Though I do prefer a larger dog, the smaller ones can be quite affectionate and just as good a friend anyway. I like mid sized dogs, anything between 20 and 40 kilograms is what I call mid sized.

Cats are not my strong suit, most of the time they don’t like me, but every now and then there’s a lovely cat or two. There once was a fluffy white cat in my life, many years ago now. Her name was “Shazza” pronounced sh-ah-zz-uh, she was a nice Persian cross something that had a few adventures around the house.

My first dog was a lovely border collie, pure bred. Trained from a puppy by my parents, he was 4 years old when I was born. He was my best friend growing up, that wonderful dog.

His name was “Samyang” and he was fiercely intelligent. He surprised the dog trainers with his training and obedience. That dog was the best dog I could have ever hoped for, he was my big brother, and will always be remembered. He passed away from cancer in 2001,that was a sad day, one that I will not soon forget.

However, before you start reaching for tissues, a few months later we adopted a young puppy of about 12 weeks. He was a fluffy little pure bred border collie, so small and lively.

His name was Pascoe.

I know what you might be thinking, “hey wait, so you just replaced Samsung?? That’s kind of cold, man.”. However I know that nothing could replace my best friend, and nothing ever will. But there was a void inside of me, of all of us (family) that could only be patched by a companion. One that will yield many years of love and happiness, and so, Pascoe came along.

I have never seen another dog like him, so unique, so different from any other. He was timid, gentle as a feather, and at the same time, he was guarding, strong and loyal. He was quite intelligent, and rather agile for his size. With distinctive white highlights through his jet black hair, he was truly one of a kind.

Leaving us in easter of 2011, liver failure was his downfall. He will not be forgotten, and will stay alongside the master (Samyang) in a well deserved rest. We do not bury them, we have them cremated and placed into a lovely ceramic urn. Each with their own brass plate (images attached).

Once again, we are all left with a hole in our hearts. We trudge on day after day, having a pain inside whenever we opened the door with nobody to greet us. Nobody to listen to us, to be excited and to bring excitement into our home. Time does help ease the pain, but it cannot remove the scars.

In June of 2011, a puppy unbeknown to us was born in a little breeder’s home not far from where we live. After being alerted of a new litter, we drive over to find that happiness once again.

Small and fragile, with a pink nose and closed eyes, Captain Billy Mills chose us as his new family. A few weeks later, he was big and strong enough to leave the pen, he was washed, brushed and smelt like apples, of all things (must have been the shampoo).

We took him home when he was about 12 weeks old, and have been loving him ever since. He is smart, has a lovely coat of shiny black and white fur, and has the temperament of a monk, with the attention span of a teenager. He is once again, one of a kind. So similar to the ones before him, but so different that none of them can compare to each other.

Captain Billy Mills, Billy, Bill, Bill Bill, Billsy, Billy-Bum, Bilbo Baggins, Fluffy, Dog, Buddy, Mate. All of these names and more are the things that he responds to, and names that we all know and remember.

He is obedient, when he wants to be, and easily motivated by food. He is a trickster, in that I mean he knows a lot of tricks like roll over, beg, play dead, spin, lay down and a few others. He’s constantly being trained, and constantly being loved. He is a creature of habit, and one of my very best friends.

He even has his own Facebook page, you can find him if you want to, just look for Billy Mills, and a picture of him.

Long post, but that’s what this blog is for, so hope you enjoyed the words, and I’ll post again soon. Probably with how they got their names.

Preserved in time, and in out memories.
Our Mate Forever is what the plaque says
Forever in our memories, and in our hearts
Out The Back was a phrase that only Pascoe recognised, he would run out to the back yard when you called it
Shiny coat, he is a trickster
This dog is truly beautiful, 3 and a half years old now

The beginning

Alrighty!

First post of the new blog, well it’s my first blog, so there goes that.

Anyway, it’s around 1am on a Thursday morning, I’ve just completed the touch screen calibration on my car PC, and am gonna get some Zs.

Bear with me for a moment as I introduce myself and the purpose of this blog.

Hello! My name is Travers Mills, 20 years old, 4th year Engineering (electrical) student at QUT gardens point campus in Brisbane, Australia. I like long drives, short drives, and driving in general. Oh and also hiking, camping, fixing stuff, tinkering with electronics, almost electrocuting myself at work (Electrical Engineering Firm), programming and long walks on the beach, toward the end of the beach, then turn around and walk back along said beach (Sunburn hurts, but Aloe is for the weak! … And also those that have some.)

Right, onto this blog. My good friend is hosting this for me which is very nice of him, and I shall use it well. I’m planning on making a tri-weekly, or try-weakly blog entry about what has happened the past days between posts. I also want to keep an updated record of what is happening to my car, and any major projects that go underway in the back yard (there have been many).

Long post, but stick with me!

My family and I have holidays, like most people, though I like to think we do them differently. I have been to almost every place on the coast in Australia, except for the Northern parts of WA and NT. Ularu, yes, 3 times, through the Simpson desert in a 4wd. That was so much fun!

Anyway, these june/July holidays have plans within them. Mum, dad and I are headed to NT, to see and do everything it has to offer. Gonna go through the Kimberlies, do some climbing, take lots of pictures and upload a few here in future posts.

Very excited!

I’ll be posting again soon, but until then, have a good one.
